Last night I got to experience a new monthly feature of the Durham music and film scene - The Modern School of Film's Film Acoustic series presented at The Carolina Theater. Each month The Modern School of Film collaborates with a musician - screening their favorite film, discussing the film afterwards, and sometimes the artist plays a few songs.
This month was Will Butler of Arcade Fire and his screening of choice was 12 Monkey's.
Rob Milazzo runs and operates the program and is also the founder of The Modern School of Film. He runs the discussions and draws the guests and featured artist into discussions that go beyond the screening of choice and their music careers.
This isn't your typical meet and greet but is a personal discussion that feels like you're talking with a friend in your living room rather than a celebrity. I'm happy that I got a few minutes to speak to Will backstage about the Triangle, his music, and remodeling their bathroom. He was a very genuine guy who when onstage spoke poetically about film, his music career, and his thoughts on creativity.
I highly recommend checking out Arcade Fire, Will Butler and his personal accomplishments, as well as keep this monthly event on your calendars. I got a sneak peek of the upcoming guests and I can surely say these are up close and personal opportunities fans and film buffs do not want to miss.
