Grand Bohemian Hotel Asheville Elopement - Laura and Paul

When Laura and Paul reached out about capturing their wedding at the Grand Bohemian in Asheville I was so excited. I had heard about how beautiful and elegant it was (basically something out of a Gatsby movie) and I was eager to capture its beauty. However Laura and Paul wanted to take a different approach to their wedding photography, they wanted only candids. No portraits, no family photos, just a completely authentic portraits of the day as it really happened. This was totally unheard of but I embraced it - being a documentary photography in North Carolina I’ve captured a lot of Asheville destination weddings and I am well versed in anticipating moments before they occur. They had a few close friends do unique readings and presentations throughout the ceremony and of course included their dog into the proceedings. The main thing they wanted was a group shot with everyone during the ceremony! I did luckily convince them to go downstairs and take a few one on one portraits but as you can see the fun was definitely had when they were surrounded by friends and family. Their reception was family style, with long flowing tables and over the top florals that just made the event pop! Family members shared speeches about how unique and headstrong these two are and how they had the perfect day that fit them. Which just goes to prove that you can literally get married any way you want. There are no rules anymore when it comes to intimate weddings. Or weddings in general. If you want something, or want to omit something do it. Don’t feel pressured into doing something that you wouldn’t normally do. Besides your birthday this is the only day that will ever truly be about the two of you together as a couple.

If you’re interested in seeing a few more intimate weddings in the Asheville area I would suggest checking out these blog posts below.

HOW TO PLAN AN ELOPEMENT IN ASHEVILLE.

Thinking of eloping in Asheville or the Blue Ridge Mountains? It’s pretty simple.

All you need is your nearest and dearest, a permit if you’re planning on incorporating a state park (Blue Ridge Parkway. Weddings and elopements with 25 people or less are allowed along the Blue Ridge Parkway with a permit (application fee of $60 and permit fee $40).) , a date, and a great attitude. I have seen so many cool downtown Asheville weddings including at Fleetwoods, The Golden Pineapple, and Odditorium, and I’d be happy to help you plan your elopement in Asheville.
