Whimsical, Woodland Elopement at Boma Lodge - Emily & Markus

Elopements, once considered a secretive act, have now become a popular and romantic alternative to traditional weddings. The allure of eloping lies in its simplicity and intimacy. Free from the pressures of elaborate ceremonies and large guest lists, couples can choose to exchange their vows in a picturesque and meaningful location, surrounded only by their love for one another.

One of the main things I’ve started marketing for this year is intimate weddings in North Carolina and the surrounding states. The majority of my clients are choosing to have weddings that are in the 4-6 hours range and Emily & Markus knew they wanted to have a less than 40 person wedding in the woods that would showcase their personalities. They got ready together, Emily helping Markus tie his tie, and him zipping her up in her dress.

These two met in the sustainability themed houses they shared with 8 other students in college and got together 4 years after graduation. They like old stuff, the woods, dancing for their cat (Bingo is her name-o), and Lord of the Rings. Markus throws pottery (he made all the drink ware at the wedding and the vases that the flowers and centerpieces were in) and Emily sews clothes (she even made her own wedding dress - please take a moment to appreciate that!)

In recent years, elopements have evolved to reflect the individuality of the couple, with creative themes, breathtaking destinations, and specialized services that capture the essence of their love story. Whether it's a mountaintop vista, a secluded beach, or a charming city street, elopements exemplify the beauty of simplicity and serve as a testament to the enduring power of love. The theme is wabi-sabi imperfection with an emphasis on natural elements. One of my favorite elements of their wedding day was when they asked their friend and officiant to weight significant items on a scale for them. These two absolutely love being outside and if you remember I shared their engagement session a few months back at Guilford College where they met.
