Destination Elopement at the Outer Banks at the Elizabethan Garden with Megan & Garret
The Outer Banks is one of the hottest wedding destinations on the East Coast. Every year my inbox is flooded with inquiries from couples who live in the North East or other parts of America, choosing to get married in the Outer Banks.
When Megan reached out I was so excited because we connected right away. Garrett and her decided to spend the week at the Outer Banks, rent a beach house, and get married on the beach with their immediate families. But they didn’t just want the typical beach photos, they wanted to make the most of their time and signed up for an extended photo session so they could have photos taken at the Elizabethan Gardens.
Did you know that it’s super easy and cheap to take photos there? While some gardens in the Triangle have heft permit fee’s, it’s only $50 to take photos in the gardens for up to two hours. we explored the grounds and I tried to channel my time in France into these, with the sprawling gardens, foundations, and the fresh sea air the grounds were truly romantic and breathtaking.
This was also a great way for us to break the ice, get to know one another, and get comfortable in front of the camera before the ceremony. I like to allow couples to spend the most amount of time with those they invited to celebrate with them, so this time away was a great way to connect.
After the gardens, we went back to their rental house and prepared for their ceremony on the beach. They exchanged vows, and then towards the end of the ceremony Garrett asked Megan’s son to also accept him as his new father (truly a touching moment) gifting him a compass to guide him home.
Finally Megan was down to trash the dress as we jumped and played in the ocean, got our feet sandy, and took photos until the sunset.
