Colorful, Tropical Summer Wedding at the Cotton Room in Durham with Rebecca and Wes

Located in the heart of Downtown Durham, The Cotton Room, which once was a running textile company in the 1900s, is now an inclusive wedding and events venue. The stunning exposed brick along with the floor to ceiling windows are some of the most unique features of this venue and a photographer’s dream. Add in the bright, energetic florals that Rebecca & Wes chose for their wedding day, and the scene is absolutely breath taking.

Rebecca & Wes met playing roller derby 7 years ago and have been skating through life together ever since. Rebecca has a strong background in history and photography, so it made sense why she chose such a timeless venue to be the background of her special day. Meanwhile, Wes used to run a skate shop. Currently, the couple works in the real estate industry and live in Atlanta, GA. They enjoy spending time with their two geriatric dogs and scooting around Atlanta on their vespa. The two are described by friends and family as down to earth and personable and this translated with their friendly, laid back wedding day.

As a non-traditional couple, they envisioned a colorful and energetic event! The magnificent, bright florals looked spectacular against the brick walls. And since the venue itself is open in structure, it was like having a blank canvas for each wedding vendor to work together and create a masterpiece. All the wedding decor was placed tastefully within the canvas and helped easily generate that friendly, fun day that they couple was after.

On their big day, I enjoyed assisting Rebecca and Wes to pose before the elegant windows. Due to their floor to ceiling nature, the windows created the perfect lighting to illuminate and frame the couple for their portraits.

As part of their reception, the spacey structure of the room allowed for the couple to have tarot readers, palm readers, energy readers, and a cigar bar spread out in the room for guests to enjoy. Taking it one step further, they also featured a pasta station, taco bar, and so much other delicious foods all catered to their favorities by the venue’s own catering company. Needless to say, bellies were full and the fun never stopped.
